# Minimum support price

 

 

  • The government on Wednesday increased the minimum support price (MSP) for wheat for the upcoming Rabi season to 3015 rupees per quintal, a 2% hike from the 1975 rupees per quintal rate of last year.
  • Oilseeds and pulses such as mustard, Sunflower and masoor hal saw higher MSP hikes of upto 8% in a bid to encourage crop diversification.
  • The MSP is the rate at which the government purchases crops from farmers.
  • Currently rates are fixed for 23 crops, including six crops during the upcoming rabi or winter season.

 

 

 

# Jharkhand assembly

 

 

  • The Jharkhand assembly on wednesday passed a bill, which provides 75% reservation for locals in private sector jobs with a monthly salary of upto 40000 rupees.
  • Jharkhand will become the third state, after Andhra pradesh and Haryana, to pass such a law.
  • The Jharkhand state employment of local candidates bill, 2021 was tabled in the house in March but was later referred to a six member select committee.

 

 

 

# Ceasefire in Nagaland

 

 

  • The union government on Wednesday entered into a one year ceasefire agreement with the National socialist council of Nagaland (K) Niki group.
  • More than 200 cadres of the outfit, with 83 weapons, have joined the peace process.

 

 

 

# India-Russia

 

 

  • India and Russia conducted their first ‘detailed and extensive review’ of the situation in Afghanistan, agreeing to coordinate their positions at the united nations.
  • The meeting that came a week after Russia decided to abstain from a UN security council resolution on Afghanistan under India’s presidency.

 

 

 

# PLI in textile sector

 

 

  • The union cabinet on wednesday approved a 10,683 crore rupees production linked incentive (PLI) scheme for the textile sector with a view to “helping India regain its historical dominant status in global textiles trade”.
  • The incentives are designed to encourage investment in new capacities in man-made fibre (MMF) apparel, MMF fabrics and 10 segments or products of technical textiles.
