The government on Monday imposed a ban on the import of apples that cost upto ₹50 per kg.
This decision may hit shipments of the fruit from Iran, UAE and Afghanistan.
Exception has been given for Bhutan.
The ban has come based on a recommendation from the agriculture ministry.
During the last financial year, apple imports were valued at nearly $300 million.
