# Turkiye

  • Search teams and emergency aid from around the world poured into Turkiye and Syria on Tuesday.
  • The toll soared above 7100 and was still expected to rise.
  • More than 8000 people have been pulled from the debris in Turkiye and some 380000 have taken refuge in government shelters or hotels.
  • Turkish President Recep tayyip Erdogan said 13 million of the country’s 85 million were affected in some way and declared a state of emergency in 10 provisions for Three months.

# Supreme Court

  • The supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed petition challenging the President’s order appointing advocate LC Victoria as a judge of the Madras High Court.
  • She was recommended for the Madras High Court by the collegium.
  • Four petitioners, all advocating in the same high Court had questioned Gowri’s past political affiliations and cited her five year old purported hate speeches against alleged forced conversions by Muslim clerics and Christian missionaries.
  • The apex Court said Gowri’s past political affiliation was no disqualification as she fulfilled all eligibility norms for judgeship in a constitutional Court.

# Home ministry

  • Fatalities inflicted on civilians and security forces by left wing extremists fell below 100 in 2022.
  • Counter naxal forces are reducing the security volume by having established 175 new camps since 2019 in the traditional Maoist strongholds, Home minister Amit shah told in Parliament.
  • The centre’s three pronged strategy to crush left wing extremism has yielded good results in last eight years.

  • Debt ridden vodafone idea on Tuesday approved the allotment of equity shares worth ₹16133 ctore to the government, which post allocation has become the largest shareholder with a 33.4% stake in the company.
  • The government cleared conversion of ₹16133 crore interest dues of debt ridden Vodafone idea into equity.
