# Spicejet

  • The Directorate general of civil aviation on Wednesday served a show cause notice on Spicejet over its failure to offer “safe, efficient and reliable” air services after as many as eight mid air incidents in the past two months.
  • The regulator blamed the airline for poor safety oversight and failure to procure spare parts for aircraft maintenance due to its poor financial status.
  • A review of recent incidents shows airline either forced to turn back aircraft on many occasions, or continue flight with degraded safety margins.

# Domestic LPG price

  • Households will now have to spend more on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) as national oil marketing companies increased the price of the 14.2 kg cylinder by ₹50, with effect from July 6
  • With the latest increase in the price of non-subsidised cylinder, households in Delhi need to pay ₹1053 as against ₹1003.
  • The increase was necessiated in view of under recovery on LPG or in other words, the retail selling price not being in Tandem with that of crude oil.

# Rajya sabha

  • Olympic sprinter PT Usha, music composer Illaiyaraaja, philanthropist veerendra hegade and screenwriter V. Vijayendra prasad have been nominated to the rajya sabha in the category of eminent persons nominated by the president.
  • In total, the president nominates 12 persons as his nominees to the Rajya sabha – persons known for their eminence in the fields of arts and letters and public service.
  • The nominees are from the states of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra pradesh.
  • The four nominees are acheivers in their own right, but their selection also reflects a Southern push by the Narendra Modi government.

# Srilanka

  • Srilankan president on Wednesday reached out to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, seeking urgent credit for fuel imports for the crisis hit Island nation.
  • Colombo is currently negotiating a support package with the Washington head quartered International monetary Fund.
