# Vice-president

  • National democratic Alliance candidate and former West Bengal governor Jagdeep Dhankhar will be the 14th Vice president of the country.
  • He secured 528 votes out of the 710 valid votes in the 16th vice-presidential election held in Parliament on Saturday.
  • The opposition candidate and Congress leader, Margret Alva got 182 votes.
  • The total elector turnout was 92.94%.
  • Out of total 725 votes polled 10 were invalid.

# Kabul

  • The newly reopened Indian embassy in Kabul is expected to increase its operations in Afghanistan.
  • This month, Afghanistan’s Ariana airlines will follow Kam air, which has been operating weekly flights between Kabul and New Delhi since july.
  • However, the embassy, which has 60 to 70 personnel has not opened any visa facilitation yet.
  • Only e-visa are being issued now.

# Srilanka

  • Srilanka has asked China to indefinitely delay a visit by a ship, following objections from India, official sources said on Saturday.
  • The Yuan Wang 5 in enroute from Jiangyin and due to arrive at the Chinese run Srilankan port of Hambantota on August 11.
  • Srilankan president Ranil Wickramasinghe had assured political party leaders on Friday that the controversial visit will not go ahead as planned.

# Bangladesh

  • Thousands of Bangladeshis beseiged the fuel stations across the country after the government raised prices by as much as 52%, the largest jump on record, on the back of the high crude oil prices.
  • Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has seen global oil prices soar, though oil prices has fallen back in recent weeks as recession fears mount.
