# Supreme Court

  • The Supreme Court on Monday rejected the challenge to Maintainability of a PIL seeking guidelines against religious conversions through fraud and allurement.
  • Supreme Court said it would lay down general guidelines prohibiting use of charity as a tool for conversion.
  • Supreme Court asked Solicitor general Tushar Mehta to collate information about anti conversion laws enacted by states and related information for Submission before the Court on December 12.
  • The PIL was filed by advocate litigant Ashwini upadhyay and the challenge mounted by a person who converted to christianity, a Christian priest and a so called “rationalist organization” Kerala yukhtivadi sangham.

# Stubble burning

  • Stubble burning in Delhi’s neighbouring states has dropped by a 31.5% this harvest season compared with last year, according to the commission for air quality management (CAQM).
  • The data includes paddy crop residue burning events in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and NCR districts of UP and Haryana between September 15 and November 30.
  • Haryana saw the maximum reduction at 47.6%, followed by Punjab at 30%.
  • As per the figures, the crop residue burning events have come down from 78500 in 2021 to 53792 in 2022, a reduction of 31.5%.

# SIPRI

  • Despite the covid pandemic and global supply chain disruptions, the sales of weapons and military services by the 100 largest armament firms in the world reached $592 billion in 2021, a 1.9% increase compared with 2020 in real terms .
  • This is the seventh consecutive year of rising global arms sale.
  • Two Indian defense PSUs Hindustan Aeronautics limited and Bharat electronics limited figure in the top 100 arms producing companies released by Swedish think tank Stockhausen international peace research Institute (SIPRI) on Monday.

# NDTV

  • Adani media networks has acquired an 8% additional stake in the open offer for NDTV.
  • It has increased the total shareholding of Adani to 37% in the media company.
