India has urged both Russia and Ukraine to ensure at least local ceasefire, so that it could evacuate its nationals stranded in the conflict torn Eastern Ukraine hotspots of Kharkiv and Sumy.
The Indian push for some kind of ceasefire came as there are more than 1000 Indian students in stranded in Kharkiv and Sumy.
Russia has assured to arrange 130 buses to evacuate Indian and other foreign nationals through Russia.
Over 3700, Indians from Ukraine returned on Friday on 17 special flights as part the “operation Ganga”.
# UNHRC
India on Friday abstained on a vote at the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva as the council decided to set up an international commission of enquiry into Russia’s actions in Ukraine.
The resolution strongly condemned agression by Russia and said it was gravely concerned about reports of rights violations by Russian forces.
India was among 13 countries of the 47 member council elected from UN members that abstained from the resolution.
# Blast in Pakistan
Atleast 56 people were killed and 194 wounded on Friday by a suicide bomb at a shia mosque in the North Western Pakistan city of Peshawar.
The blast tore through the Kocha Risaldar area of the city moments before the Friday prayers were to start.
It is deadliest attack after a july 2018 blast, claimed by local chapter of the Islamic State group which killed 149 people at an election rally.
# Rupee
The rupee on Friday slid below the 76 mark for the first time in 2022.
The rupee fell by 23 paise to 76.17 against the US dollar.
The rupee was weakened by 1.11% or 84 paise in the last week.
