# MCD polls

  • The high decibel campaign for the elections for a reunified MCD – which has largely pitted BJP against AAP – seemed to have failed to enthuse voters, with a turnout of just 50.5% recorded til 5:30 PM, the official closing time on Sunday.
  • Even after final turnout, the final figure is unlikely to cross the record turnout of 53.6% in 2017, the highest for a civic election in the capital.
  • Unlike in the assembly elections of 2020, young voters were not so visible while the affluent kept up their record of not showing up.
  • The highest voter turnout was in Bakhtiyarpur (65.7%) and the lowest was in Andrews Ganj (33.7%).

# G20

  • Emerging market economies – from China to Argentina and Russia to South Africa – called upon the G20 to focus on accelerating sustainable development Goals and addressing issues related to food and energy security.
  • Some of the countries also complicated India for the role played in evolving the consensus at the recent leaders’ summit in Bali, Indonesia.
  • India is leaving no stones unturned to greet G20 sherpas : from flower decked aerobridges and men blowing bugles outside Udaipur airport and giving them the feeling of ethnic welcome.

# Iran

  • Iran had abolished the morality police, according to an announcement by the attorney General carried on state media.
  • Decision came following months of protests set off by the death of a young woman who was being held by the force for supposedly violating the country’s strict islamic dress laws.
  • There was however, no confirmation of the confirmation from the interior Ministry which is incharge of the morality police.

# Australia

  • Recent figures released by the Australian Government show that the country has recorded around 52000 new commencements from India in 2022, around 7% higher than the previous figure.
