Terrorists stuck again at the non-kashmiri muslim population in the valley on Thursday killing two migrants.
Vijay kumar of Hanumangarh, Rajasthan was shot dead inside an SBI lead illaquai dehati bank branch in Kulgaam in the morning.
He was the eighth victim of targeted killings since May 1 and third non Muslim government employee to die in targeted terrorist attacks.
A second man to die was Dilkhush, a brick klin labourer from Bihar who was shot dead in Budgam.
# Social media
The government wishes to arm itself with powers to overturn decisions of social media platform like Twitter, Facebook, google and Instagram to suspend Or block account of users over violations, and is also seeking levers to force the companies to take down contents when directed on a user’s complaint.
The proposed changes are part of a draft which seeks to amend the information technology (intermediary guidelines and Digital media ethics code) rules 2021.
This draft gives overriding powers through a grievance appellate committee.
The draft was taken off the IT ministry website in a very quick time.
# Saint of santoor
Renowned Santoor player Bhajan sopori passed away at a Gurugram hospital on Thursday aged 73.
He was a padma shri recipient who was also referred to as the “saint of santoor”.
He was born in Srinagar and he had his roots in North kashmir’s Sopore district.
He was a recipient of Sangeet Natak academy Awards in 1993.
# Liquid mirror telescope
India has commissioned a unique liquid mirror telescope atop a mountain in the Himalayan region that will keep a watch on the skies to identify transient or variable objects such as space debris, asteroids etc.
It is the country’s first and Asia’s largest liquid mirror telescope.
The telescope built by the astronomers from India, Belgium and Canada is located at an altitude of 2450 metres in Nainital district Uttarakhand.
# Caste census
The bihar state cabinet on Thursday approved the proposal of the general administration department for conducting caste based population enumeration in Bihar by February next year.
Bihar chief secretary said the caste based census and economic enumeration would be conducted with the state’s own resources and it would entail an expenditure of Rs 500 crore, which would be made available from the state contingency fund.
