# UPSC results

  • Women have aced civil services examination 2021 by cornering the top three slots.
  • This is the fifth time in last five years that a woman has secured the top rank.
  • As per CSE 2021 results declared by the UPSC on Monday, there are 177 women (25.8%) among the 685 successful candidates.
  • Also, 10 of the top 25 rankers are women.

# Char dham pilgrims

  • 108 pilgrims have died in less than a month since the Char dham yatra began on May 3 this year.
  • 90 deaths were recorded during the entire six month period of pilgrimage in 2019.
  • Most deaths this year have been attributed to cardiac arrests at the shrine towns, situated between 10000 feet and 12000 feet.
  • Around 12 lakh have been on the yatra so far in 2022.
  • In 2019, there were 32 lakh pilgrims and 26 lakh in 2018.

# NFHS

  • In 2005, less than two in 10 Indians owned a mobile phone but with increasing availability of cheap yet powerful hardware, more than 95% of Indians own cell phones now.
  • According to a Nielsen report, there are 646 million internet users, 352 millions of these are in rural areas.

# Srilanka

  • The world Bank is planning to disburse $700 million to crisis ridden Srilanka by re purposing its existing loans.
  • Meanwhile, Srilanka is recommending airlines carry enough jet fuel to last return trips or fill up elsewhere.
