# Supreme Court

  • Facing tremendous time constraints in deciding constitutional issues in view of huge pendency of cases, a five judge Constitution bench headed by chief justice of India UU Lalit on Tuesday suggested time bound hearing of the cases for timely adjudication and asked lawyers to argue within the time allotted to them.
  • After assuming office, CJI Lalit has fast tracked hearing of constitutional bench matters and four such cases have been listed before a bench headed by him.
  • The bench agreed to hear first the matter pertaining to validity of constitutional amendment to allow 10% reservation to economically weaker sections in government jobs and educational institutions.

  • Indian tycoon Gautam Adani, whose business empire extends from infrastructure to airports management and FMCG to cements, on Tuesday became the third largest richest person in the world behind Tesla’s Elon Musk and Amazon’s Jeff Bezos.
  • With a net worth of $137.4 billion, the main promoter of the Ahmedabad based group surpassed French businessman Bernard Arnault, the co-founder of World’s largest luxury brand LVMH, Bloomberg millionaire report showed.
  • Adani is the first Asian to break into the top three on the list.
  • Fellow Indian Mukesh Ambani,currently with the net worth of $92 billion, is in 11th place.

# Supreme Court

  • On August 22, 2017, a five judge bench had declared triple talak Or instant divorce among muslims unconstitutional while deciding on a petition filed by Shayara Bano.
  • Almost exactly five years later, another five judge bench of Justice Indira Banarjee, Hemant Gupta, Surya kant, MM Sundresh and Sudhanshu Dhulia agreed to take up Adjudication of other discriminatory practices against muslim woman on a PIL filed by advocate Ashwini upadhayay along with six similar petitions filed by Muslim Women.

  • China’s ruling communist party will begin its 20th party congress on October 16, state media reported.
  • In this congress, President Xi is expected to be announced as the country’s most powerful leaders in decades.
