# Air Quality index

  • With air quality likely to touch “severe” in Delhi on Sunday, the Sub committee of the commission for air quality management (CAQM) on Saturday banned all construction and demolition activities across Delhi NCR.
  • It also ordered closure of brick kilns and hot mix plants not operating on approved fuels apart from barring stone crushers and mining operations.
  • The measures were enforced as per the “severe” Category under stage III of the graded response action plan in Delhi NCR.
  • Delhi’s average AQI on Saturday plummeted to 397 in very poor category, on the verge of severe.

# Gujarat

  • The Gujarat government announced on Saturday that it has decided to form a committee to implement the uniform civil code in the state.
  • The dates for the assembly elections are likely to be announced in the next few days in Gujarat.
  • The committee will be headed by a retired judge of the Gujarat High court and will have three or four members.

# Wire fraud

  • Delhi Police’s crime branch has filed an FIR against editors of the online portal, the wire, for their now retracted stories accusing Bypass IT cell head Amit Malviya.
  • The wire has accused BJP of using a programme called Tekfog, a ‘superhuman app’, for social media interception.
  • The FIR has been filed against Siddharth vardharajan, Sidharth bhatia, MK Venu and Jahnavi Sen.

# Russia

  • Russia on Saturday suspended its participation in a landmark agreement that allowed vital grain exports from Ukraine, blaming alleged drone attacks on Russian ships in Crimea.
  • The Turkey and UN brokered deal to unlock grain exports signed between Russia and Ukraine in July is critical to ease global food shortage.
