# GST

  • Goods and services tax collections rose 44% year on year to over 1.4 lakh crore in May.
  • Though this was 16% lower than the record collections of about ₹1.7 lakh crore in April.
  • Experts say that typically first month of a fiscal year generates lower revenue.
  • This is only the fourth time the monthly GST collection crossed 1.4 lakh crore mark since the inception of GST.

# Caste based census

  • Bihar CM Nitish kumar on Wednesday got a hitherto reluctant BJP and eager RJD and six other parties on the same page for the state’s first ever caste based enumeration of population.
  • In this all party meeting, both the factions of LJP and vikassheel insaan party was not invited.
  • Bigar’s last such caste based exercise was conducted in 1931 by British.

# FMCG

  • India’s fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector is witnessing a slowdown in consumption as companies hike prices across categories to adjust for high input costs.
  • While the sector clocked 6% growth in the January-March quarter over last year due to price increases.
  • Rural consumption dipped more than 5% during this period.

# Tata motors

  • Fuelled by strong demand for SUV’s and electric vehicles, Tata motors pipped close rivals Hyundai to emerge as the number two passenger vehicle maker in India.
  • Maruti Suzuki is still the top player.
  • Tata motors sent 43,341 units to domestic dealerships in May 2022.
