# OMICRON

  • The world Health Organization (WHO) on Friday classified the B. 11.529 variant detected in South Africa as a SARS COV 2 ” Variant of concern”, saying it may spread more quickly than other variants.
  • This B. 11.529 variant is named ‘Omicron’.
  • This variant has been detected at faster rates than previous surges in infection.

# NITI aayog

  • More than 50℅ of the population of Bihar are identified as “multidimensionally poor”.
  • Bihar has the maximum percentage of population living in poverty among all the states and Union territories, according to government think tank NITI aayog’s multidimensional poverty index.
  • As per the index, 51.91℅ of the population in Bihar is poor, followed by jharkhand 42.16℅, uttar pradesh 37.79℅, madhya pradesh 32.65℅ and Meghalaya 32.67℅.
  • On the other hand, Kerela registered the lowest poverty levels 0.71℅, followed by Puducherry 1.72℅.

# India-Russia summit

  • Russian President Vladimir Putin will arrive in India on 6th December to attend the 21st India-Russsia annual summit.
  • The visit will coincide with the India-Russsia 2+2 meeting of the foreign and defense ministers.

# Sensex

  • The benchmark S&P BSE sensex suffered its biggest single day fall in more than 7 months on Friday, slumping almost 3℅.
  • Fears of a new novel coronavirus variant that may be possibly vaccine resistant spooked investors worldwide.
  • Oil prices also dived about 6℅ hitting a 2 month low.

# Tata

  • Tata groups is in talks with three states to invest upto $300 million to set up a semiconductor assembly and test unit.
  • Tata is talking to the states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Telangana.
