Over three quarters of registered deaths in India remain without causes being medically certified.
In states like bihar, that proportion is scarcely believable at 96.6%.
At national level, there has been marginal improvement in certification of deaths with the proportion rising from 20.7% in 2019 to 22.5% in 2020.
Other states with single digit certification levels are Jharkhand (6.1%), Madhya pradesh (6.7℅) and Nagaland (7.6%).
Goa and Manipur have 100% certification of registered deaths, lakshadweep 99.7%.
# BPCL privatisation
The centre on Thursday formally scrapped the privatisation of the country’s second largest state owned oil refining and marketing firm bharat petroleum corporation limited.
The sale has been scrapped due to obstacles in the sale process triggered by covid-19 pandemic, the current geopolitical situation and the inability of bidders to go ahead with the deal.
The government had earlier planned to offload its entire 53% holding and invited expression of interest for BPCL’s privatisation.

In the last five years, female candidates in the national eligibility cum entrance test (NEET) have registered an increase of nearly 41%.
The number of registrations has shown significant growth in the last five years up from 11.4 lakh in 2017 to 18.7 lakh this year.
The number of candidates taking the exam in Hindi has more than doubled in the last five years up from 1.2 lakh in 2017 to 2.5 lakh in 2022.
# Trade pacts
India is moving ahead with the next round of free trade agreements with commerce and industry minister Piyush goyal in the UK to push ahead with talks.
The two trade agreements, along with those with Canada and Israel are currently on the table.
