# UNSC

  • India, along with China and the UAE, abstained from the United Nations Security Council resolution sponsored by the US and Albania.
  • This resolution was co-sponsored by nearly 80 countries that sought to condemn Russian aggression and called for the immediate withdrawal of Russian military from Ukraine.
  • The resolution supported by 11 UNSC members, was vetoed by Russia.
  • Prime minister Narendra Modi spoke to Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky on phone on Saturday, hours after the UNSC vote.

# Operation Ganga

  • India on Saturday evacuated its stranded citizens from Ukraine through Romania and Hungary under “Operation Ganga”.
  • Air India’s first evacuation flight from Romania landed in Mumbai at 7:50 PM.
  • A second flight from Romania with 250 Indian nationals is expected to land in Delhi in the early hours of Sunday.
  • Air India is also operating a flight from Hungary.

# Pak-Afghan border

  • Hundreds of people were stranded on Saturday at a key border crossing between Pakistan and Afghanistan, days after fighting between Taliban and Pakistan security forces.
  • The clashes on the border lead to atleast three deaths.
  • The Taliban was objecting to the fences which are erected by Pakistan on the border demarcated in the colonial times, which is called Durand line.
  • Since last several decades, no Afghan government has ever recognised Durand line as a legitimate border.

# Sunflower oil imports

  • Imports of Sunflower oils is expected to be disrupted due to Russia-Ukraine conflict.
  • India’s total imports of edible oils surged to a record ₹1.17 lakh crores in 2020-21 marketing year (November to October).
  • India imports 25 lakh tonnes of sunflower oils annually, of which 70℅ comes from Ukraine and 20% from Russia.
