# Supreme Court

  • Justice Uday Umesh Lalit is going to take oath as the 49th Chief Justice of India on August 27, 2022.
  • Justice U. U Lalit has assured that the supreme Court will strive to have at least one Constitutional bench functioning throughout the year.
  • The chief justice designate promised clarity and transparency in the urgent listing of cases in the top Court.
  • Justice Lalit’s initiative comes at a time when supreme Court’s pendency has crossed over 71000 from a little over 55000 in 2017.

  • Twitter stonewalled questions by the members of the standing Committee on Information technology on the latest revelations made by its former head of security Peiter Zatko who claimed that Indian government forced the social media firm to put a government agent on its payroll.
  • At a meeting on Friday, twitter executives evaded questions on the subjects.
  • The committee has asked twitter to submit replies within a week.

  • The Indian Army is prioritising the procurement of the indigenous Indian light tank named ‘Zorawar’ for deployment in mountains.
  • In addition to light tank, the army will induct niche technologies such as loitering munitions, anti drone capabilities and next generation intelligence and surveillance.

# FIFA

  • World football governing body FIFA on Friday lifted the ban imposed on the All India football federation after the supreme Court terminated the mandate of committee of administrators.
  • It has also cleared the decks for India to host the Women’s U-17 world Cup in October.
