# Union cabinet decision

  • The centre had decided to extend its free ration scheme, pradhanmantri Garib kalyaan anna yojna (PMGKAY), for another 3 months, untill March 2022.
  • The Union cabinet also gave its formal approval to repeal the farm laws in winter session of parliament.
  • The Union cabinet has nit not taken any decision regarding formation of a committee for legal gurantee on MSP.

# NFHS

  • Births in institutional facilities, such as hospitals, have improved by nearly eight percentage points.
  • Children who were either stunted or displayed signs of wasting only improved by a three percentage points.
  • These data have been collected from the national family health survey-5.
  • India has officially hit a total fertility rate of 2.0 which shows a decrease from 2.2 in NFHS – 4 survey.

# Terrorism in Kashmir

  • More than 80℅ of the terrorists killed this year in Kashmir hailed from the valley, according to central reserve police force data.
  • The central reserve Police force is the largest central force deployed in the valley for counter terrorism, along with jammu and Kashmir police and army.
  • The CRPF officials said that 199 militants are active in the valley.
  • Out of the active militants, 109 are locals and 90 are foreigners.

# Srilanka

  • Srilanka had decided to rope in China harbour engineering company to construct the second phase of the colomobo port’s East container terminal.
  • This terminal was earlier to be developed jointly by Srilanka, India and Japan, until Srilanka backed off a tripartite agreement.

# Cryptocurrency ban

  • Plans by the government for a new bill that would bar most private cryptocurrencies has triggered a sell off in the country’s digital currency markets.
  • The bill, if passed, would effectively ban Indian citizens from transacting in cryptocurrencies.
