# Russian Invasion

• Russia launched a full scale invasion of Ukraine by land, air and sea on Thursday.
• This is the biggest attack by one state against another in Europe since the second World war and confirmation of the worst fears of the West.
• Ukraine reported columns of troops pouring across its borders into the Eastern Chernihiv, kharkiv and Lushank regions and landing by sea at the cities of Odessa and Mariupol in the South.
• Russia’s defence ministry said its military destroyed 83 Ukrainian land based targets and achieved all its goals in Ukraine for Thursday.
• An air India flight to Kiev to bring back Indian citizens turned back midway on Thursday morning after Ukraine closed its airspace for commercial flights.

# Vikram Sampath

• The Delhi High Court on Thursday directed Twitter to take down within 48 hours the tweets of controversial historian Audrey Truschke.
• Audrey Truschke had made an unverified allegation of plagiarism against historian Vikram Sampath in connection with his works on Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.
• Vikram Sampath is a fellow of the Royal Historical Society in London and has written a two volume biography of Savarkar.

# Modi-Putin

• Prime minister Narendra Modi appealed for an immediate ceasefire and a return to dialogue in a conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday.
• Vladimir Putin briefed PM Modi about the Russian decision to attack several locations in Ukraine.
• Prime minister’s office said safe exit of the Indian citizens from the conflict zone was India’s highest priority.

# Moody’s

• Moody’s investors service scaled up its 2022 growth forecast for India to 9.5% with a further upside potential.
• It had earlier projected 7% GDP growth.
• The agency expects 5.5% growth in 2023.
