# Supreme Court

  • The Supreme Court on Wednesday said it will constitute a three judge bench to reconsider a 2013 judgement which held that pre poll promises made by a political party cannot constitute a corrupt practice under the representation of the people act.
  • The S. Subramanyam balaji versus government of Tamil Nadu judgement, based on DMK’s pre election promise to distribute color television sets to poor households in Tamil Nadu, said only an individual candidate, not his party can commit a corrupt practice under the representation of people act by promising free gifts.
  • In another instance, the Supreme Court on Wednesday decided to hear in open Court a petition seeking a review of the July 27 judgement that upheld the core amendments made to the Prevention of money laundering act.

# PM Modi

  • Prime minister Narendra Modi will travel to Japan to participate in the state funeral of slain former Japanese Prime minister Shinzo abe on September 27.
  • The Indian side is yet to announce the visit.
  • PM Modi will begin the month of September by hosting prime minister Sheikh Haseena of Bangladesh, which is being planned as a significant regional interaction.

# Wind power projects

  • Annual installation of wind power projects in India will peak by 2024 and likely decline there after.
  • A report has been released on Wednesday by the global wind energy council (GWEC) and MEC+, a consulting firm that specialises in renewable energy.
  • As part of its transition from fossil fuels, India has committed to sourcing half its electricity in 2030 from non fossil fuel sources and installing sixty gigawatt of wind power by 2022.

  • The lights are out along a once bustling boulevard in a tourist spot at the centre of China’s hottest summer on record in the South West region of the country.
  • Temperatures as high as 45 degree celsius have forced authority to impose power cuts.
