# IPEF

  • India was among 13 initial partners in Tokyo that signed up for the Indo Pacific economic framework for prosperity.
  • It is a fresh economic arrangement proposed by US President Joe Biden to counter Chinese growing influence in the region with integrated, resilient and clean economies.
  • All the Asean countries except laos, Cambodia and Myanmar joined this initiative.

# New Delhi

  • Khadi and village industries commission (KVIC) chairman Vinai kumar Saxena was on Monday appointed the new lieutenant governor of Delhi.
  • The 64 year old is the first person from the corporate sector to be appointed to the coveted post, which has usually been held by Civil servants.
  • He has driven khadi from a staid product associated with politicians into a chic brand.
  • Since he took over in October 2015, the sale of Khadi and village industry products, which markets foods and other items has jumped from under ₹42000 crore to over 1.15 lakh crores.

# Service charge

  • The continued practice of restaurants and eateries of including service charge in their bills has prompted the consumer Affairs ministry to summon the restaurant owners Association to discuss the issue threadbare.
  • Five years ago, the consumer Affairs ministry had directed restaurant owners to display service charge as voluntary in their bills and leave the column blank for customers to fill, if they wish.
  • Union consumer affairs secretary has said the service charges are voluntary and at the discretion of consumers.

# Srilanka

  • Srilanka’s inflation hit a seventh consecutive record high in April as petrol shortage burdens and food prices rose sharply, official data showed on Monday.
  • The National consumer price index rose 33.8% year on year in April more than six times the 5.5% inflation a year earlier.
