• Senior politician and staunch rajapaksha loyalist Dinesh Gunawardana on Friday became the third prime minister to lead Srilanka in the last three months.
• Earlier Ranil wickramasinghe was elected the president of Srilanka.
• The cabinet of the previous government will continue untill an all party government is formed.

# National film awards

• Tamil movie Soorarai pottru won national awards for the Best feature film, Best actor, Best actress, Best background score and the best screenplay at the 68th national film awards 2020 announced on Friday.
• Tanhaji : the unsung warrior won the awards for the best actor (Ajay devgan) and best popular film providing wholesome entertainment.
• Ajay Devgan shared the best actor award with Suriya, who got the recognition for Soorarai pottru.
• Manoj muntashir won the best lyrics prize for the movie Sania.

# Parliament

• Opposition members protested against the introduction of the private member’s bill on the repeal of the places of worship (special provisions) act, 1991 in the Rajya sabha on Friday.
• The bill moved by BJP member Harnath singh yadav could not be introduced as the members were absent.
• The 1991 legislation was enacted to freeze the status of all places of worship in the country as on August 15, 2047.
• The act has already been challenged in the Supreme Court claiming it denies the right to justice to all the followers of those religions whose places of worship were destroyed by Islamic invaders.

# Electric vehicles

• Electric passenger vehicles could comprise 30% and 75% of new vehicles sales in India by 2030 and 2050 respectively.
