# Gyanvapi dispute

  • The Supreme Court on Friday shifted the trial of a suit by Hindu parties seeking enforcement of their rights to worship inside Varanasi’s disputed Gyanvapi mosque from civil judge to the district judge.
  • Supreme Court observed that the survey of a structure to ascertain its religious nature is not barred under the places of worship (special provisions) act, 1991.
  • Delhi Police arrested a Delhi University’s associate professor of History at Hindu college for his derogatory social media post on shivling found in Gyanvapi mosque.

# Telangana encounter

  • The Supreme Court appointed inquiry commission has found the 2019 encounter of four arrested accused in the rape and murder of a veterinarian in Telangana as fake.
  • The inquiry commission also fastened murder charges against all 10 policemen involved in the act.
  • All the 10 policemen will be tried under section 302 and 34 of IPC, for murder.

# China

  • According to a report China is constructing a second bridge on Pangong Tso.
  • The Ministry of external affairs informed that China is constructing this bridge on the Indian claimed land which is under China’s illegal occupation since 1960’s.
  • Congress has earlier criticised the government of not giving befitting response to China on this matter.

# Foreign direct investment

  • After two years of double digit rise, foreign direct investment (FDI) grew 2% during the last financial year to a new high of $83.6 billion.
  • The latest number showed that Singapore had overtaken Mauritius to emerge as the top source of FDI.
