Polling in Punjab and phase 3 of Uttar pradesh assembly elections on Sunday was largely peaceful with a 65.32% turnout in Punjab and 60.46℅ in Uttar Pradesh, according to the Election commission.
The turnout in Punjab was down by around 12℅ in comparison to the 2017 election figure, when 77.4℅ voters exercised their franchise.
As the state witnessed a lower voter turnout, the speculation was rife among political observers about a “tactical understanding between traditional political parties.
# Russia – Ukraine
French president Emanuel Macron and Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday agreed to work for a ceasefire in Eastern Ukraine.
Mr Putin and Mr Macron said they would work intensely to allow the trilateral contact group – Ukraine, Russia and OSCE to meet to get all interested parties to commit a ceasefire on at the contact line.
Contact line is the point where Ukrainian forces and Pro Russian separatists are facing each other.
# Iran nuclear deal
Iran lawmakers have laid out six condition for the revival of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal with global powers in a letter to Iranian president Raisi.
The letter signed by 250 out of 290 parliamentarians, stated that US and European parties should guarantee they would not exit a restored agreement.
The statement comes in the midst of final steps to revive a 2015 nuclear agreement in Vienna.

The Editors guild of India on Sunday sought withdrawal of the newly released media Accreditation guidelines.
Editors guild said new guidelines released by Press information bureau is vague and arbitrary.
