# Jammu & Kashmir

 

 

  • Union home secretary Ajay Bhalla on saturday invited 14 leaders of Jammu and Kashmir political parties for a meeting with Prime minister on June 24.
  • This will be the first political engagement by the Prime minister since the August 5, 2019, move by the centre to end J&K’s special constitutional position.
  • Spokesman of Gupkar alliance MY Tarigami has said that final decision on attending the meeting will be taken after a meeting of all political parties in the Gupkar alliance.

 

 

 

# Assam population control norms

 

 

  • Assam will apply “population norms” to all government schemes soon, Assam CM Hemanta Bishwa Sharma said on saturday.
  • “Population norm” will be applied in loan waiver schemes or any other state run government scheme.
  • “Population norm” implies that the families having not more than two children will only be eligible for a government scheme benefits.
  • Schedule castes, schedule tribes and tea tribes are exempted from this policy.

 

 

 

# Bengal violence

 

 

  • The Calcutta high court has directed the chairperson of National human rights council to constitute a committee to examine complains of post-poll violence in West Bengal.
  • A bench of five judges directed the committee to examine all the cases, and visit the affected areas if necessary.
  • The court asked the committee to suggest steps to be taken to ensure confidence of the people that they can peacefully live in their houses and also carry on their occupation or business.

 

 

 

# J&K delimitation

 

 

  • The Delimitation commission for the union territory of J&K has started its function.
  • Commission has written to all 20 district commissioners (DC), seeking basic demographic, topographic information as well as local administration’s impressions of political aspirations of the district.
  • The commission was set up in Feb-march 2020 to delineate assembly and parliamentary constituencies.

 

 

 

# Iran’s new president

 

 

  • Iran’s hard line judiciary chief won a landslide victory on Saturday in the country’s presidential election.
  • The election saw the lowest turnout in the Islamic republic’s history.
  • The Amnesty International, a human rights group has said that Ebrahim Raisi should be investigated for the crimes against humanity, for his work as the judge of supreme court of Iran.
