The Supreme Court collegium, led by CJI DY Chandrachud, on Thursday said public criticism of the government’s “policies, initiatives and directions” is no disqualification for a person’s appointment as a judge.
Collegium also reiterated its recommendation for appointment of advocate Somasekhar Sundaresan as a Bombay high court judge.
The collegium, also comprising Justices SK Kaul and KM Joseph, rejected the centre’s objection to its February 16, 2022 recommendation.
The centre had rejected the recommendation on the ground that he is a “highly opinionated person” and has been selectively critical of important policies, initiatives and directions of the government on social media.
