# UNSC resolution

 

 

  • Despite the abstention of two “p5” countries – Russia and China from the India led united nations security council (UNSC) resolution 2593, the resolution regarding Afghanistan passed in the council.
  • Resolution called on the Taliban to keep their commitments on preventing terror groups in Afghanistan.
  • It also called for letting evacuate all afghans wishing to leave Afghanistan.

 

 

 

# GDP growth

 

 

  • India’s gross domestic product grew by 20.1% in the first quarter of 2021-22.
  • India GDP had contracted 24.4% in the same quarter last year.
  • Overall GVA in quarter 1 was still 7.8% lower than the first quarter of 2019-20.

 

 

 

# India meets Taliban

 

 

  • Indian ambassador in Qatar Deepak mittal met with the head of Taliban political office Sher mohammad Stanakzai.
  • It if for the first time, Indian government has officialy confirmed an engagement with Taliban.

 

 

 

# Indian meteorological department

 

 

  • According to data from IMD, India ended the month of August with a 24% Shortfall of rain.
  • This brings India’s overall monsoon rainfall deficit to 9%.

 

 

 

# Industrial growth

 

 

  • Output from India’s eight core sectors grew by 9.4% in July from a year earlier.
  • Crude oil was the sole sector to register a decline, with output shrinking 3.2%.
