# Covid

  • The current Covid 19 surge in the country is appeared to have peaked, with cases in the last seven days down 27% as compared to previous week.
  • There was a slight decline in the deaths from the virus, with toll in 7 days falling to 131, from 160 in previous week.
  • Kerala has been reporting the highest number of cases at 11726.
  • Kerala was followed by Haryana, Maharashtra and Uttar pradesh.

# Sudan

  • The Sudanese army said in a statement on Sunday that it has agreed to extend the truce with paramilitary RSF for a period of 72 hours.
  • The RSF too has agreed to extend the ceasefire.
  • The situation in the Khartoum, where the army has been battling RSF forces remained calm.

# India-Russia

  • India and Russia will explore the possibility of accepting Rupay and Mir cards in each other’s country for hassle free payments amid sanctions imposed by the West on Moscow.
  • In a recent high level Intergovernmental commercial meeting, it was agreed to explore the opportunities of allowing acceptance of these cards.
  • It was also agreed to look at adopting the Russian financial messaging system.
  • Currently overseas payments from India and vice versa are through SWIFT network.

# US

  • US federal Reserve policy makers are about to extend their year long campaign of raising interest rates to beat back still stubborn inflation.
  • The federal open market committee is expected to boost the benchmark lending rate by another quarter percentage point on Wednesday.
