# Economic survey

  • India’s GDP is expected to grow by 9.2℅ this year and 8-8.5% in 2022-23.
  • According to economic survey, hardening inflation and energy prices along with tightening of global liquidity poses challenges to the economic growth.
  • Newly appointed chief economic advisor, V. Anantha Nageswaran termed the 8-8.5℅ growth projection for the coming year as a conservative projection.
  • The growth range hinges on assumptions that there will be no further debilitating pandemic related economic disruption, monsoon will be normal, withdrawal of liquidity by major central banks will be largely orderly and others.
  • Economic survey does not mentions the shape of economic recovery last year.

# Election Commission of India

  • The election Commission of India on Monday allowed upto 1000 people at public meetings of political parties.
  • Earlier, ECI has allowed only 500 people in public meetings of political parties.
  • The election commission extended the ban on rallies, roadshows and processions till 11th February.

# Covid-19

  • The country recorded 165119 new covid-19 cases on Monday.
  • The total number of infections has reached 4.13 crore and the active cases have crossed the 18.2 lakh mark.
  • On Sunday, 13.3 lakh tests were conducted, and the positivity rate stands at 12.4℅.

# Forest area

  • India has increased its forest area in the past decade and ranks third globally in average annual net gain in forest area from 2010-20.
  • The department of economic affairs said in the economic survey.
  • Forests covered 24℅ of India’s geographic area, accounting for 2℅ of the world total forest area in 2020.
