# Monsoon session of parliament

 

 

  • Prime minister Narendra modi attended an all party meeting and assured the opposition that government is ready to discuss and debate all issues in a “constructive manner”.
  • The monsoon session is going to be highly disruptive as opposition is planning to raise a number of issues.
  • The main issues which will be raised include rising inflation and fuel prices, farm laws and spying on various important public figures.

 

 

 

# Kerala government

 

 

  • The decision by the Kerela government to ease covid-19 curbs on retail sales for three days from sunday ahead of bakrid on july 20, has evoked mixed response.
  • Congress spokeperson abhishek singhvi tweeted against this decision calling it a deplorable act by Kerala government.
  • The Indian medical association also objected to the easing of curbs and threatened to move the supreme court against the decision.

 

 

 

# Midday meals

 

 

  • Girls who had access to free lunches provided at government schools had children with a higher height to age ratio than those who did not.
  • This report has been published in “nature communications” this week.
  • This report says that there is a 13-32% of the improvement in the height for age Z-scores in India between 2006 and 2016.

 

 

 

# Sedition cases

 

 

  • A total of 326 cases were registered in the country under the controversial colonial era penal law on sedition between 2014 and 2019 in which just six persons were convicted.
  • The supreme court last week observed that section 124A of the IPC – offence of sedition has been enormously misused.
  • The highest number of cases were registered in Assam(54) followed by jharkhnad(40).

 

 

 

# Kashmiri pandits

 

 

  • The Jammu & kashmir administration is speeding up work on 6000 transit accomodations in Kashmir for kashmiri pandits.
  • These accomodations will be provided to pandits willing to return to valley from different parts of the country.
