# Omicron

  • The omicron variant of Coronavirus has been reported in 89 countries.
  • The number of cases are doubling in 1.5 to 3 days in areas of community transmission, the world Health Organization said in Saturday.
  • Omicron is spreading rapidly in countries with high levels of population immunity.
  • The WHO had designated Omicron as a variant of concern on November 26.

# India-France relations

  • France has agreed to build an aircraft engine in collaboration with India, said Defense minister Rajnath singh.
  • Rajnath singh also said that Government is committed to increase the budget outlay for defense procurement from Indian industries.
  • Indian defense and aerospace manufacturing market, which is 85000 crore rupees now, would increase to 1 lakh crore in 2022, and 5 lakh crore rupees in 2047.

# Central Asia dialogue

  • External affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will host the India-central Asia dialogue on Sunday.
  • Five foreign ministers from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are arriving in Delhi for a one day conference.
  • The conference, which marks the third edition of the dialogue, is expected to focus on trade and connectivity in the region as well as developments in Afghanistan.

# Nord stream 2

  • German economic affairs Minister Robert Habeck warned in an interview published on Saturday of “severe consequences” for the Nord stream 2 gas pipeline from Russia to Germany if Moscow attacked Ukraine.
  • The Baltic Sea pipeline is set to double supplies of cheap natural gases from Russia to Germany.
