# Collegium

 

 

  • The supreme court collegium, led by Chief justice of India NV Ramanna, has recommended to the government nine names for appointment as judges in the court.
  • According to the recommended names, BV Nagarathna may become India’s first CJI in a few years from now.
  • Eight judges and one lawyer from the supreme court bar have been recommended.
  • Three of the recommended judges are woman.

 

 

 

# NDA exam

 

 

  • The supreme court on wednesday issued an interim order allowing women candidates to take the national defence academy (NDA) exam.
  • Examination is scheduled to be held on September 5.
  • Central government has asked for the gradual opening of NDA exams for the female candidates.

 

 

 

# Oil palm farming

 

 

  • The centre will offer price assurances, viability gap funding and planting material assistance to oil palm farmers to boost domestic production.
  • It will reduce dependence on imports via a new mission approved by the cabinet on wednesday.

 

 

 

# GDP growth

 

 

  • India’s GDP is estimated to grow at the “deceptively high” level of 20% for the April-june quarter.
  • Yet the GDP will remain far below the pre-covid levels.
  • Last year in the April-June quarter GDP contracted by close to 24%.
