The supreme court collegium, led by Chief justice of India NV Ramanna, has recommended to the government nine names for appointment as judges in the court.
According to the recommended names, BV Nagarathna may become India’s first CJI in a few years from now.
Eight judges and one lawyer from the supreme court bar have been recommended.
Three of the recommended judges are woman.
# NDA exam
The supreme court on wednesday issued an interim order allowing women candidates to take the national defence academy (NDA) exam.
Examination is scheduled to be held on September 5.
Central government has asked for the gradual opening of NDA exams for the female candidates.
# Oil palm farming
The centre will offer price assurances, viability gap funding and planting material assistance to oil palm farmers to boost domestic production.
It will reduce dependence on imports via a new mission approved by the cabinet on wednesday.
# GDP growth
India’s GDP is estimated to grow at the “deceptively high” level of 20% for the April-june quarter.
Yet the GDP will remain far below the pre-covid levels.
Last year in the April-June quarter GDP contracted by close to 24%.
