# Sudan

• At least 31 people belonging to the Hakki-Pikki tribal community from Karnataka are stranded in Al shir, 1000 km from Sudani capital Khartoum.
• At Khartoum rival factions of the ruling military regime have been battling for control of the African nation Sudan.
• The Indian embassy in Sudan has advised Indian nationals not to step out, ration their supplies and seek help from neighbours as the situation seemed unlikely to change in the next few days.
• The Hakki-Pikkis (literally bird hunters) are a nomadic tribe based in Karnataka who were rehabilitated in the 1970s after their trade of bird hunting was banned.

# China

• China’s economy grew at a faster pace than expected in the first quarter as the end of Covid Zero policy gave way to stronger consumer spending.
• Gross domestic product expanded 4.5% in January to march period from a year prior.
• Recent economic indicators are providing conflicting signals about the recovery : credit and export growth surged in March but inflation remained weak.

# Qatar – UAE

• Qatar and the United Arab Emirates are working to reopen their long closed embassies in the coming weeks.
• The two countries reestablished relations in January 2021 after the UAE took part in a nearly four year Gulf blockade of Qatar.
• Saudi, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt imposed a blockade on Qatar in 2017, accusing it of supporting extremist organizations in the region.

# Richest cities

• New York again topped the list of the world’s wealthiest cities, boasting some 340000 millionaires last year.
• New York was followed by Tokyo, California’s Bay Area, London and Singapore.
