# Presidential election

  • The election of the new president of India will be held on Monday.
  • The contest is between the ruling NDA candidate, Draupadi Murmu and opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha.
  • There are 4809 eligible voters for the electoral college.
  • The elected members of both the houses of the parliament and the assemblies of the states , the national capital Territory of Delhi and union territory of Puducherry make up the electoral college of presidential election.
  • The value of total votes is 10,86,431.

# Vice president

  • Former Rajasthan governor Margaret Alva will be the joint opposition candidate for the August 6 vice presidential election.
  • The decision to field Ms. Alva was taken at a meeting of the leaders of 17 opposition parties at the residence of Sharad pawar.
  • She will be filing her nomination papers on July 19th.
  • The electoral college for the vice presidential election is made up of the 788 members of the parliament.

# Vaccination

  • India’s cumulative Covid-19 vaccination drive crossed the milestone of 200 crore doses on Sunday.
  • It took the country almost 9 months to reach the 100 crore vaccination mark.
  • It took another nine months to reach the 200 crore mark.

# GST

  • Customers will have to pay a 5% goods and services tax on pre packed labelled food items such as atta, paneer and curd, besides hospital rooms with rents above ₹5000 a day.
  • Hotel rooms with tarriffs of upto ₹1000 a day, maps and charts including atlases will attract a 12% GST.
