# Population

  • China’s population fell last year for the first time in six decades, a historic turn that may Mark the start of a long period of decline with profound implications for its economy and the world.
  • China’s national bureau of statistics reported a drop of nearly 850000 people for a population of 1.41175 billion in 2022, the first dip since 1961, the last year of China’s great famine.
  • This possibly makes India the world’s most populous nation.
  • Last year, UN experts put India’s population at 1.412 billion in 2022.

  • Hit hard by zero covid policy and slump in its real estate market, China’s economic growth fell to 3% in 2022.
  • It is the second slowest growth rate in 50 years, according to official data released on Tuesday.
  • This was way below the 5.5% official target.

  • The BJP’s receipt soared by 154% to over ₹1917 crore in 2021-22 from ₹752 crore in 2020-21.
