# Supreme Court

  • The retirements in the top most rung of the judiciary in 2022 will encompass changes in the powerful supreme Court collegium and see two new chief justices in a span of two months.
  • The Supreme Court statistics shows that 70362 cases are pending with it as on April 1, 2022.
  • The current working Judicial strength is 32 against the sanctioned strength of 34.
  • If no new appointments are made till the retirement of Justice UU Lalit on November 8, the year may see 9 vacancies in the Court.

# BRICS

  • India has agreed to attend a virtual summit of leaders of the Brazil-Russia-India-China and South Africa grouping, likely to be held at the end of June.
  • India hosted last year’s BRICS summit, which was also held virtually and attended by all five leaders.
  • Leaders of the G7 grouping comprising Germany, France, The United States, Italy, Japan, Canada and the United Kingdom will meet in the Balvarian Alps on June 26 and 28.

# United Kingdom

  • British Prime minister Boris Johnson is expected to meet leading industrialist Gautam Adani in Gujarat during his visit to India which begins on April 21.
  • The visit is expected to strengthen UK-India ties against the backdrop of Brexit and the Invasion of Ukraine by Russia.
  • Boris Johnson will also visit GIFT (Gujarat International finance tech) city.

# Srilanka

  • A srilankan government delegation is headed to the US on Sunday to engage with the IMF to secure a $4 billion package.
  • The delegation led by newly appointed Finance Minister Ali Sabry will hold talks with the International monetary Fund between April 19 and 24.
