# Monsoon

  • The onset of monsoon over Kerala is likely to be slightly delayed with the IMD on Tuesday predicting its arrival on June 4.
  • Monsoon will be delayed by three days as the normal date of monsoon arrival is June 1.
  • Late arrival of the rain bearing system in India’s mainland has, however, nothing to do with its further progress or the quantitative and spatial distribution of rainfall.
  • In 2019, monsoon had hit the Kerala coast seven days behind the normal date, but the year recorded “above normal” rainfall.

# ASI

  • A study conducted by the archaeological survey of India has found that the Tungnath temple, which faces North and is located at an altitude of 12800 feet in Rudraprayag district of Garhwal himalayas, is tilting by 5-6 degree and the smaller structure in the complex by 10 degrees.
  • ASI officials have apprised the central government about the findings and suggested that the shrine be included as a protected monument.
  • Government has started the process of declaring it as a monument of national importance and issued a notification seeking objections from the public as a matter of procedure.
  • The ASI will find the root cause of the damage to determine if it can be repaired immediately.

# Supreme Court

  • The Supreme Court has turned down a plea to review its November 2022 verdict by which it had upheld validity of the 103rd constitutional amendment to carve out 10% reservation for economically weaker sections from unreserved class.
  • A five judge bench headed by CJI DY Chandrachud said there was no error in the judgement which could be re examined and dismissed a batch of review petitions filed by different parties including Tamil Nadu government.

# Religious freedom report

  • The US state Department 2022 report on International religious freedom is motivated and biased commentary by some US officials said Indian government.
  • Government said these reports hold no credibility and scrutiny.
