# Delhi riots case

 

 

  • Delhi has not yet released the three student activists of the JNU in Delhi riots case.
  • Delhi police quickly moved the supreme court on Wednesday against their release order by Delhi high court.
  • They were booked under the UAPA in connection with the Delhi riots that broke out last year after protests against the CAA turned violent.

 

 

 

# ICMR mulls drone use

 

 

  • Drones could soon be used for delivering covid-19 vaccines in remote and hard to reach geographies in the country.
  • The ICMR has invited expression of interest from drone operations to develop a delivery model.
  • The tender document lays down the technical specifications required, which include the ability of drones to fly “beyond visual line of sight”, carry a payload of upto 4 kg and cover a distance of upto 35 KM.

 

 

 

# UP police book twitter

 

 

  • The police lodged a FIR against social media site twitter, news portal The Wire, journalists Saba naqvi and Rana Ayyub, self proclaimed fact checker Mohammad Zubair and three others.
  • They are accused of sharing on Twitter a video of the incident and giving it a communal colour without verifying the details.
  • The FIR was lodged against them under sections 153, 153-A, 295-A, 505, 120-B and 34 of the IPC.

 

 

 

# Deep ocean mission

 

 

  • The union cabinet has approved the long pending deep ocean mission.
  • This mission among other things involves developing a submersible vehicle that will allow a crew to plunge 6000 metres into the ocean and hunt the floor for precious metals, flora and fauna.
  • India will be among a handful of countries able to launch an underwater mission at such depths.

 

 

 

# Inland vessels bill

 

 

  • The union cabinet on wednesday gave the nod to the Inland vessels bill, 2021, which will replace the inland vessels act, 1917.
  • Total 4000 Km inland waterways have been operationalised.
  • A key feature of the bill is a unified law for the entire country, instead of separate rules framed by the states.

 

 

 

# 5G connections by 2026

 

 

  • 5G will represent about 26% of mobile subscriptions in India at the end of 2026 with an estimated subscription base of 330 million.
  • Also, 4G subscriptions are expected to rise from 680 million in 2020 to 830 million in 2026.
  • The number of smartphone subscriptions, that stood at 810 million in 2020, was expected to touch more than 1.2 billion by 2026.
