The liberation war of 1971 changed the ideological map of South Asia, president Ram nath kovind said in Dhaka on Thursday.
President Ram nath Kovind is in Dhaka to participate in the celebration to mark the golden Jubilee of independence of Bangladesh and victory in the war.
Bangladesh is India’s largest trading partner in South Asia and fourth largest export destination globally.
# Public sector bank
Public sector bank unions went on a two day strike from Thursday to protest against privatisation of banks.
Bank unions demanded that the government withdraw the Banking laws (amendment) bill, 2021 that would enable the government to reduce its share in public banks.
According to bank unions, public sector banks had grown from 8000 branches handling deposits of 5000 crore rupees in 1969 to 1.18 lakh branches with 157 lakh crores in deposits in 2021.
# Reporters without borders
There are currently 488 media professionals imprisoned around the world.
This is the highest number since reporters without Borders began counting 25 years ago, the NGO announced on Thursday.
China once again has the highest number of imprisoned journalists at 127, said RSF.
# Power discoms
Total outstanding dues owed by power distribution utilities or discoms to generation firms are estimated to be more than 1.56 lakh crore rupees.
Power minister R. K singh said that the condition of most of the state government owned distribution companies is a matter of grave concern.
