# Nagaland assembly

 

 

  • The 60 member Nagaland assembly now has no MLA in the opposition.
  • The Naga people’s front (NPF) – the state’s only opposition party on monday inducted into the state government, headed by chief minister Neiphiu Rio.
  • The decision to accept the opposition less united government has been taken unanimously to start a peace process with several extremist groups.

 

 

 

# Two-child policy

 

 

  • UP government reviewed over 8000 suggestions from the public over a draft bill of a new population control law.
  • The commission has last month uploaded the draft on its website and invited suggestions from people.
  • The commission has rejected the suggestion of barring the voting rights of persons having more than two children.

 

 

 

# WPI inflation

 

 

  • Inflation in wholesale prices slowed marginally to 11.2% in July from June’s 12.1%.
  • On a month-on-month basis, the wholesale price index (WPI), however, increased 0.6% in July from June 2021.

 

 

 

# Fuel demand

 

 

  • India’s recovery in Demand for fuel continued in August as sales of diesel inched towards pre-covid levels on easing of pandemic related restrictions.
  • Petrol sales are already above pre-covid levels while diesel is 8% short.

 

 

 

# Jewellery exports

 

 

  • Exports of gems and jewellery from India grew more than threefold to $12,549 million between April and July, from $3875 million a year earlier.
  • Exports growth is majorly attributed to the renewed consumer sentiment especially in USA with the recent announcement of the Covid-19 stimulus package of $1.9 trillion.
