# Delhi riots

 

 

  • The Delhi high court on Tuesday granted bail to JNU students accused in Delhi riots which include Devangana Kalita and Natasha Narwal.
  • They were arrested under the UAPA in connection with the North-east Delhi riots in 2020.
  • The three activists, arrested in may last year, have been named in multiple FIRs in relation to the riots.

 

 

 

# AY.1 not a variant of concern yet

 

 

  • India on Tuesday formally acknowledged the occurence of AY.1 coronavirus variant.
  • AY.1 variant is closely related to the prevailing Delta variant.
  • AY.1 or B.1.617.2.1 has a mutation called K417N that is linked to high infectivity and has been associated with beta variant, first identified in South Africa.

 

 

 

# Twitter

 

 

  • Twitter has not yet appointed a chief compliance officer despite multiple assurances.
  • According to an official source, due to non-compliance with the new IT rules, twitter may no be longer be classified as an intermediary.
  • By losing its intermediary status, the US headquartered  social media platform can now be held liable for any content posted by any user on its platform.

 

 

 

# Ethanol production

 

 

  • The central government has allocated 78000 tonnes of rice procured for food security purposes to be diverted to ethanol production.
  • The rice will be sold at the subsidized rate of 20/KG.
  • Government has set a target of achieving 20% blending of ethanol in petrol by year 2025.

 

 

 

# Vaccination related death

 

 

  • A government panel studying covid-19 vaccine side effects on Tuesday confirming the first death due to anaphylaxis following vaccination.
  • According to a report submitted by national adverse events following immunisation (AEFI) committee, a 68 year old man died from anaphylaxis.
