# Srilanka

  • Srilanka’s president Gotabaya Rajapaksha on Thursday sent his resignation letter by email from Singapore, the parliamentary speaker’s office said.
  • The development came a day after Mr. Gotabaya fled the country and sought refuge in Maldives and then in Singapore.
  • Singapore’s foreign ministry said that Gotabaya Rajapaksha was allowed to enter Singapore on a private visit.
  • He was not given asylum nor he requested for an asylum.

  • India will provide “appropriate land” For food parks across the country that will be built in collaboration with Israel, US and UAE.
  • The plan for the integrated food parks was announced in a joint statement after the leaders of the I2U2 grouping held a summit on Thursday.
  • The UAE will invest $2 billion in India to create the food parks, said joint statement.

  • Former Finance Minister Rishi Sunak came out on Top in the second round of voting on Thursday by conservative MPs to decide, Britain’s next prime minister.
  • The little known penny Mordaunt again came a strong second with 83 votes behind sunak with 101.
  • The foreign minister Liz Truss was third with 64.

  • The rupee edged close to an unprecedented low of 80 against the US currency on Thursday as it depreciated a little more than 18 paisa to settle at 79.99.
  • Dollar surged to 24 year high against a basket of global currencies.
