# Inflation

  • India’s wholesale inflation accelerated to a new high of 14.2℅ in November from 12.5℅ in October.
  • This high inflation is led by primary food inflation that hit a 13 month high and a continued uptick in mineral, fuel and power, as well as oil and gas prices.
  • The Asian Development bank (ADB) has marginally lowered its growth projection for the Indian economy to 9.7℅ in 2021-22, from 10℅ estimated in September.

# Char dham highways

  • The supreme Court on Tuesday upheld the government’s mandate to broaden three himalayan highways, considered crucial by the Ministry of defence (MOD) for quick troop build-up along the India-China border.
  • The three national highways – Rishikesh to Mana, Rishikesh to Gangotri and Tanakpur to pithoragarh – act as feeder roads to the northern border with China.
  • These national highways are the part of the char dham highways project.

# Climate change

  • India on Monday voted against a draft resolution at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) linking climate to security.
  • India said it was an attempt to shift climate talks from the United Nations Framework convention on Climate change (UNFCCC) to the security Council and a step backward for the collective action on the issue.
  • The resolution was sponsored by Ireland and Niger, and it did not pass, with 12 members voting for it, India and Russia voting against it while China abstaining.

# World Trade organization

  • A world Trade organization dispute resolution panel has ruled against India’s sugar subsidies and in favour of complainants Brazil, Gautemala and Australia.
  • The commerce ministry refuted the findings of the panel as completely unacceptable to India.
  • The dispute dates back to 2019, when the three major sugar exporting nations challenged some of India’s policies for the sugar sector at the WTO.
