# EWS Quota

  • The Supreme Court judgement upholding the EWS reservation could open the floodgates with states approaching the centre to legitimize their quota laws violative of 50% ceiling.
  • These demands may put the central government in an unenviable position, given the potential costs of accepting or rejecting such requests.
  • If states start petitioning the centre for constitutional amendments to firewall their quota laws, the government would face a tough choice.

# COP27

  • India with the help of other developing countries thwarted an attempt by developed countries to focus on all top 20 current CO2 emitters for additional mitigation actions, instead of just the big historical polluters (rich nations), during the first week of the UN climate talks (COP27).
  • The crucial second week of negotiation involving ministers will begin Monday.
  • The mitigation work program is focused on collectively slashing emissions by nearly half by 2030 from 2010 levels.
  • This emission cut is considered necessary if the climate goal of keeping warming within 1.5 degree celsius by the end of century is to be met.

# Bali G20

  • The G20 Summit on November 15-16 in Bali will see PM Narendra modi and other leaders participating in three important sessions, including on food and energy security, digital transformation and health.
  • Official sources said Modi will have around 20 engagements during his two day stay in Bali where, as the next chair, India will look to speak for the developing countries.
  • PM Modi, who will receive G20 presidency from Indonesian president Joko Widodo at the closing session, will invite the leaders to India’s G20 summit.

# Janjatiya Gaurav diwas

  • President Draupadi murmu will visit Ulihatu village – the birthplace of tribal icon and anti colonial warrior Birsa munda in Jharkhand’s Khunti district on his birth anniversary on November 15.
  • November 15 is celebrated as Janjatiya Gaurav diwas to remember the role of tribal freedom fighters.
