# Vaccine availability

 

 

  • NITI aayog member VK Paul said Sputnik v vaccine will be available in India from early next week.
  • VK Paul also said that India is proactively engaging with foreign vaccine manufacturers like Moderna, Pfizer and Johnson and johnson for vaccines.
  • VK Paul also said that overall 216 crore doses of vaccine could be available in India between August and December.
  • The union government has accepted the recommendations for extension of the gap between the first and second doses of the covishield vaccine to between 12 and 16 weeks.

 

 

 

# House arrest

 

 

  • The supreme court has thrown open the door to the legistature to “ponder” over the idea of placing convicts under the house arrests to avoid over crowding of prisons.
  • Supreme court said that grant of interim bail and parole to prisoners to decongest prisons.
  • The occupancy rate in prisons had climbed to 118.5% in 2019.

 

 

 

# GST council meet

 

 

  • West bengal Finance minister said there is an urgent need to call a meeting of the GST council.
  • West Bengal FM Amit mitra is the second state finance minister to raise this issue after Punjab finance minister.

 

 

 

# Pharmaceutical pricing

 

 

  • India has asked Chinese authorities to ensure prices for key medical supplies remain stable as cost for oxygen concentrator and other critical goods have surged on the back of rising demand.
  • Chinese media are reporting that oxygen concentrators that were listed as selling for 1000 yuan (11000 rupees) on chinese e-commerce sites are now showing 4-5 times the price.
