Cases fuelled by the Omicron variant of Covid-19 have initially spread only in Urban areas.
However, many rural and semi urban places recorded a sharp spike in infections in the past week.
At the start of this year, 50℅ of the cases were from the Urban centres such as Mumbai, chennai, Delhi, Kolkata.
However, the share reduced to 35℅ by Wednesday.
The share of cases from rural areas increased from 6℅, at the start of the year to 12℅ on Wednesday.
# Forest cover
Forest and tree cover in the country has increased by 2261 sq km since the last assessment in 2019.
This data has been released by the India state of forest report – 2021 released on Thursday.
Total forest and tree cover was 80.9 million hectares, which accounted for 24.62℅ of the geographical area of the country.
# Srilanka
India on Thursday confirmed a $400mn currency swap agreement with Srilanka.
India also deferred a $500mn due for settlement to the Asian clearing union.
These measures have been taken to pull out Srilanka from an unprecedented economic crisis.
# India-UK
Minister of commerce and industry Piyush Goyal and UK trade secretary Anne Marie Trevelyan kicked off talks for an ambitious comprehensive free trade agreement on Thursday.
The negotiations are expected to be completed within a year.
Agreement will cover both goods and services.
The trade is expected to be double to $100 billion in 10 years.
