# India-China

  • Chinese troops tried to cross the line of actual control at Yangtse in the Tawang sector of Arunachal pradesh on December 9 in a bid to unilaterally change status quo.
  • Chinese troops were stopped and beaten back by Indian soldiers said Defense minister Rajnath singh in Lok sabha.
  • Sources said around 300 Chinese troops intruded across the line of actual control armed with clubs and sticks, apparently to gain access to a peak with a commanding view in the high altitude region at around 17000 feet.
  • China has claimed that Indian soldiers crossed the LAC, but Rajnath singh made it clear that it was PLA soldiers who provoked the clash.

# Supreme Court

  • Chief justice D Y chandrachud led supreme Court collegium on Tuesday agreed to recommend names of Justice Sanjay Karol, PV Sanjay kumar, Ahsanuddin amanullah, pankaj mithal and Manoj mishra to the centre for their appointment as Supreme Court judges.
  • The collegium comprising the CJI and Justices SK Kaul, SA Nazeer, KM Joseph, MR Shah and Sanjiv khanna also decided to recommend these judges.
  • Meanwhile, Justice Bela M Trivedi on Tuesday Recused herself from hearing the plea of the Bilkis Bano, without giving any reason.

# India-UK FTA

  • UK secretary of state for International trade Kemi Badenoch has spent the last two days in India holding consultations with her Indian counterpart Piyush Goyal.
  • India and UK are negotiating a free trade agreement for year now.
  • The UK minister said she is aware of the Indian demands to open professional services and flexibility on Intellectual Property rights.

# New Zealand

  • Future generations of new Zealanders will be banned from purchasing tobacco as part of a package of new anti smoking law.
  • The suite of new laws include bans on selling tobaccos to anyone born on or after January 1 2009.
