India called Srilanka out at United Nations Human Rights Council on Monday for lack of “measurable progress” On the latter’s commitments for a political solution to the ethnic tamil minority issue through “full implementation of the 13th amendment of the Constitution”.
This rare public disapproval of Srilanka’s action or inaction as the case may be, follows the Island nation’s decision to allow a Chinese “Spy vessel” to dock at the Hambantota port despite objections raised by India.
India this year alone has given aid worth $3.8 billion to srilanka to help it deal with economic crisis.
# Gujarat
Vedanta has selected Gujarat for its Semi conductor project.
This is the first major step in its $20 billion joint venture with Taiwan’s Foxconn.
The project will include display and semiconductor facilities near Ahmedabad.
While lobbying for incentives, Vedanta had sought 1000 acres free of cost on a 99 year lease and water and power at concessionary and fixed prices for 20 years.
# Industrial output growth
Industrial production growth as per data released by the NSO, slowed to a four month low of 2.4% in July from 12.7% in the previous month and was lower than the 11.5% growth recorded in July 2021.
This was largely driven by a contraction in mining and slowing activity in manufacturing and electricity and fading out of the base effect.
# Health expenditure
Government expenditure on health after rising steadily from 2004-05 to 2017-18 as a percentage of gdp fell for the first time to just under 1.3% in 2018-19.
