Retail inflation surged to a five month high in September on the back of stubborn food prices, triggering fears of more interest rates hike by reserve Bank of India to tame price pressure.
Data released by the national statistical office (NSO) on Wednesday showed retail inflation, as measured by the consumer price inflation jumped to 7.4% in September.
Inflation in rural areas was higher at 7.6% while in urban centers it is 7.3%.
Food inflation was at a 22 month high of 8.4% during the month as prices of vegetables, cereals rose.
