# COP26

 

 

  • The 2022 edition of the conference of parties or the COP27, will take place at Sharm-El-Sheikh, Egypt, and the 28th edition in 2023 will be held in the UAE, the council decided even as a final agreement to conclude COP26 proved elusive until the time of going to press.
  • The COP26 final agreement has to be signed by all 200 countries, which is being prepared under the COP presidents Alok sharma.
  • Developing countries such as India and China are pushing for formal acknowledgement from the West that they have not delivered on past promises of providing $100 billion anually until 2020.

 

 

 

# Chennai rains

 

 

  • Chennai received nearly five and a half times more than the normal rainfall between November 7 and 12.
  • Similarly, the state recorded an overall rainfall of 10CM during the recent rain spell triggered by the depression, which is 142% excess of the normal for the week.
  • Chennai district has so far recorded 81 cm rainfall for the NE monsoon since October 1. It is 85%  excess.

 

 

 

# Industrial output

 

 

  • India’s Industrial output fell 2.6% month on month in September, even as retail inflation inched up marginally to 4.48% in October.
  • Compared to September 2020, the index of Industrial production (IIP) grew 3.1% in September 2021.

 

 

 

 

# Railways

 

 

  • Nearly 20 months after the pandemic disrupted operations, the Indian railways on Friday said it would resume regular trains with pre-covid fares.
  • The railways had stopped passenger services in March last year due to the pandemic.

 

 

 

# Passenger vehicle

 

 

  • Semiconductor shortage and high raw material costs continued to hurt the automobile industry with passenger vehicle and two wheeler dispatches to the dealers in October declining 27% and 25% year on year.
  • Passenger vehicle wholesales fell to about 2.26 lakh untill last month, from more than 3.1 lakh units in October 2020.
